Jiu-Jitsu is often called "human chess" because it’s full of details and strategy. Just like chess players study moves or basketball players practice shooting, drilling techniques in Jiu-Jitsu is a key part of improving.
Some might say drilling isn’t realistic since your partner doesn’t give full resistance, and that’s true. But the purpose of drilling is to build instincts. When it’s time to roll for real, you won’t have time to think—you’ll just act.
For beginners, drilling is especially important to develop the skills and instincts needed to succeed in Jiu-Jitsu.
